Completing a period of religiosity, Godod Sutejo denotes this year as a search for true feelings. At age 70, Godod marked this by exhibiting 70 works to open a sense of seeking peace. His path to find real life through cosmological contemplation is found in Manembah Mring Gusti Kang Maha Agung.
Godod’s solo exhibition is a reflection of a life lived through learning from the realms of soul and body. In the realm of the soul, he trains his sense of kramadangsa by going on a spiritual journey; via the figure of the empu and experts in the science of honing taste towards true taste. Ritual contemplation is done to find life’s meaning and it in his life. This spiritual practice with inner wandering finds 'ati' in his work. Godod's works refer more to the 'raos kasampurnan' hidden in his 'ati'. There, art becomes piwulang lan piweling to fellow beings and dedicated to the family. Manunggaling rasa lan Jiwa produces impressionistic-spiritual works.
In the realm of the body, Godod studied formally at ASRI, finishing in 1977 and his doctorate in 1985. The search for form must be promoted through mastery of technique, as well as display insights, which he acquired through non-formal education at Pasar Seni Jaya Ancol (1975). With experimentation to find the concept of 'cosmology', the small and soft figures (life) in each subject are a reflection of the big world (Great God). Thus Godod's 'Big World and Small World' was founded from wandering about for the meaning of life: The sides of the color are dimmed. The shade color is the darkness of the world, and it becomes bright (padhang) when being based on Allah.
In addition to solo exhibitions at his gallery, Godod organizes various cultural arts activities in villages, including Nungsung Suryo (Sun Welcoming) at 05.00 at Puncak Moyeng Menoreh, Kulonprogo. It involves dozens of artists in Javanese painting, dance, theater and music to collaborate in responding to the universe. Also, he is always involved in traditional rituals such as ngguyang jaran kepang (bathing lumping horses) held every Wednesday of Sapar in the Bendung Kayangan River.
Godod’s concern for fellow artists has become more sensitive, demonstrated by how he recently exhibited Purwadmadi’s paintings, inviting collectors & art enthusiasts to collect his works.
