Tiancheng International Jewellery and Jadeite Spring Auction will take place on 1 June, showcasing a vast array of coloured gemstones, diamonds and jadeite pieces. Leading the sale is a necklace that boasts fiery natural unheated Burmese rubies totalling 67.83 carats. Juxtaposed against the incandescent diamonds, the ruby necklace makes a true masterpiece of superb quality. Also gracing the market this season is a 1.03-carat natural fancy vivid purplish pink diamond ring hailing from the Argyle Diamond Mine. The closure of the Western Australian mine last year has made its pink diamonds even more prized than they already are, elevating their status as some of the most coveted gemstones.

Nestled in Western Australia, the Argyle Diamond Mine was once one of the highest yielding diamond mines in the world, producing 90% of the world’s pink diamonds. While diamonds from the area generally lean on the petite side of the scale, the richness of colour saturation is unrivalled. The closure of the mine in 2020 meant that the supply of Argyle pink diamonds is now finite, making even rarer on the market. A proud treasure from the Argyle Diamond Mine, this 1.03-carat natural fancy vivid purplish pink diamond possesses a captivating hue characteristic of its origin, which is complemented by eight pear-shaped white diamonds. Resembling a flower in full bloom, the transience of a springtime blossom and the legendary Argyle Diamond Mine are now immortalised in this very ring.

Inclusions described as jardin, are often formed in the process, which made oil enhancement a common practice. Melo pearls are named after the Melo Melo sea snails. They are exceedingly rare, as the probability of finding one is one in several thousands, and that no attempts of culturing have been successful thus far. The present melo pearl weighs a staggering 116.67 carats with clearly visible “flaming lines”. The pearl is ingeniously cast as the moon by the designer, who combined it with star patterns and an astronaut, bringing to life the iconic image of man walking on the moon. The intricate and thoughtful design allows the melo pearl to be taken out from the pendant for appreciation.
