Jakarta, The Grand Ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan was filled with industry leaders, government representatives, and business partners on 26 June 2026 as Geothermal Soccer Indonesia (GSI) officially launched its latest initiative. More than introducing a new sporting platform, the event marked the beginning of a movement designed to bring renewable energy closer to the public through sport, culture, and community engagement.

Opening the evening with traditional Indonesian performances, the launch reflected GSI's vision of combining national identity with a shared commitment to a more sustainable future. Representatives from geothermal developers, EPC contractors, service companies, financial institutions, and other stakeholders gathered to celebrate what is expected to become a new platform for collaboration within Indonesia's geothermal ecosystem.

Rather than relying solely on conferences and technical forums, GSI positions football as a medium to strengthen relationships while introducing geothermal energy to a broader audience. Chosen for its universal appeal, football offers a space where collaboration, teamwork, and communication can grow naturally across different generations and professional backgrounds.

The enthusiasm surrounding GSI had already been visible before the official launch. On 19 June 2026, the organisation successfully hosted the Geothermal Billiard Competition at Universal Billiard & Lounge, FX Sudirman, alongside the technical meeting for the upcoming Geothermal League and Geothermal World Cup. The event drew strong participation from industry players and highlighted the growing interest in building professional connections through sport.

Following the launch, GSI's sporting calendar continues with the Geothermal League – IPP, Geothermal League – EPCC, and the Geothermal World Cup – Road to IIGCE 2026 Grand Final, creating opportunities for companies across the geothermal sector to engage beyond the workplace.

One of the evening's highlights was the unveiling of RAJA BARA, GSI's official mascot inspired by the Sumatran tiger. Representing courage, resilience, teamwork, and national pride, the mascot symbolises Indonesia's abundant geothermal resources and its commitment to clean energy.

Guests were also introduced to "NAFAS BUMI," GSI's first official anthem composed by Christina Fransisca Tan. The performance celebrated Indonesia's geothermal potential through music while reinforcing the organisation's vision of making renewable energy more relatable and accessible to society. GSI also announced that its second anthem, "GLASS PAVILION," will premiere during the closing ceremony of the Geothermal World Cup – Road to IIGCE 2026.

Beyond sport, the launch also showcased geothermal's contribution to local communities through GeoFeine, a CSR initiative from Pertamina Geothermal Energy's Kamojang working area. Featuring premium Canaya coffee beans that have reached international export markets, the programme demonstrates how geothermal development can create lasting economic opportunities while supporting sustainable local businesses.

Looking ahead, GSI plans to expand

its outreach through the Geothermal Goes to School programme and U-14 Soccer Coaching Clinics in geothermal working areas in collaboration with geothermal developers and PLN. The organisation will also take part in the Indonesia Sport Summit (ISS) before joining the 13th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) 2026, where it aims to continue promoting geothermal awareness through sport and community engagement.

With its unique approach, Geothermal Soccer Indonesia offers a fresh perspective on how an industry can connect with the public. By bringing together sport, culture, education, and sustainability, GSI is creating a platform where conversations about clean energy extend beyond conference halls and become part of everyday experiences.
