Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar started the first round with impressive results. Scoring 63 (8-under-par), the 35-year-old golfer immediately led the leaderboard in the opening round of the BNI Indonesian Masters Presented by Tunas Niaga Energi 2023 today at Royale Jakarta Golf Club. This is Bhullar's lowest score in the first round in his 7 times participation in the biggest golf tournament in Indonesia.

However, the first round of BNI Indonesian Masters Presented by Tunas Niaga Energi 2023 could not be completed. The match had to be stopped due to bad weather. Bhullar's position remains unwavering with 4 groups left to complete the remaining holes.

Starting the first round, Bhullar immediately posted a birdie on the first hole, then an additional 2 birdies on the final 2 holes in the first nine holes. Collecting three-under-par on the first nine, Bhullar was even more motivated. His game was even more impressive. Five birdies took the 10-time Asian Tour winner (whose first title was in Indonesia-one of four Asian Tour titles there) to the top of the US$1.5 million tournament.

Jonathan Wijono

Jonathan Wijono who played in the first group on the morning schedule first became the first Indonesian golfer to score the lowest score on the first day of the BNI Indonesian Masters Presented by Tunas Niaga Energi 2023. Scoring 68 (3-under-par), it became the best score of the current No. 1 professional golfer in Indonesia in 4 times playing in the Indonesian Masters.

According to Jonathan, a lot of his shots were solid today, possibly due to being confident since coming into the mornings without being too overconfident, so he tried playing conservatively and aggressively at the same time. As 6-time collector of national pro titles this season, Jonathan stated that unlike last week, his putting stroke and the feeling of playing were much better this week.

Elki himself still had an open chance to pass Jowi with 1 hole remaining, though bad weather with lightning stopped the afternoon schedule of the first round  with a total of 4 groups that still needed to complete the game. The match would resume on Friday, November 17, 2023
