BNI Indonesian Masters 2023: A Step Away from Winning

Gaganjeet Bhullar continues to hold strong at the BNI Indonesian Masters Presented by Tunas Niaga Energi 2023 at Royale Jakarta Golf Club. In the third round on 18 November, Bhullar's pace was increasingly unbeatable in the blistering heat. The 35-year-old golfer again posted a score of 63 (8-under-par) like he did on day 1, thus furthering his place ahead of the pack with a 7-stroke advantage in Indonesia’s largest professional golf tournament.

Starting the third round from tee 1, Bhullar needed four holes to score his first birdie. He also added three more birdies in the last 4 holes of the first nine. Armed with 4-under-par in the middle of the round, Bhullar continued to roll. 

An additional 4 birdies closed Bhullar's results on moving day (the third day in 4 tournament rounds) to 8-under-par without a single bogey, and again cemented the three-time Indonesia Open Champion’s place at the top of the leaderboard with a total of 20-under-par. According to him, he started well and played more focused strokes, with the key to his game being putting and maintaining overall solid form.

Bhullar has a great chance of winning his first Indonesian Masters, with him being ahead of David Puig who managed to snag the second position after playing with 62 (9-under-par). For this success, the 21-year-old young Spanish golfer is 7 strokes behind leader Bhullar. Although Puig was self-deprecating of his performance on the first 2 days, he was happy with his shots he hit all week and maintains optimistic about being able to get his second win.

Indonesia's favorite and #1 professional golfer, Jonathan Wijono, was able to maintain his performance in the third round as well. Despite only playing even par (72), the 22-year-old Surabaya golfer still has 1 chance to reach the best finish line tomorrow. 

With 5-under-par after 36 holes, Jonathan Wijono started this moving day with a poor start. One bogey and one double bogey in the first 5 holes immediately reduced his score to 2-under-par. However, on hole 6, he bounced back with a birdie. 

Jowi finished the first nine holes (front nine) with 2-over-par, while his game on the second nine holes (back nine) improved. Two birdies scored on the back nine returned Jowi's total score to its original result: 5-under-par. Afterwards, he noted his mistakes and misses when it came to his shots and timing.

Achieving 5-under-par is already an achievement in itself for Jowi who qualified for the first time in his fourth appearance at the BNI Indonesian Masters 2023. If the golfer can maintain his performance like the first 2 days, his chances of getting under-par will increase.
