1983 is Koufu's newly established and fast developing food outlet brand that is dedicated to preserving the 'nostalgic taste' of "椰香é¥" (fragrant coconut rice), and other popular Asian cuisines. The story of 1983 begins with a little rented stall set up by a man named Ah Goh at Malacca Street. Though sales were slow at first, the special sweet and spicy sambal and aromatic pandan coconut rice that Ah Goh created with his Malay buddy soon became a winning formula. Selling for just $2 a plate, everything would be sold out within hours, with taxi drivers patronising the stall at least twice a week and some taking away 10 packs at a go. As more people called out for Ah Goh's "椰香é¥", it quickly became the most famous dish in the area.
