November 20, 2023

The biggest professional golf tournament in Indonesia, this year's BNI Indonesian Masters Presented by Tunas Niaga Energi at Royale Jakarta Golf Club was finally closed on 19 November 2023 with a sweet performance by Indian golfer, Gaganjeet Bhullar. After 6 tries, Bhullar finally won the title in his 7th appearance with a wire-to-wire victory (leading the leaderboard in 4 rounds).

Bhullar who started the third round with an 8-shot lead went in with a chance to win the BNI Indonesian Masters for the first time. Until the 6th hole in the fourth round, he collected 2 birdies so that the total score was 22-under-par. Although he had to settle for a bogey on holes 9 and 15, Bhullar managed to claw back his 11th Asian Tour victory with an eagle on the closing hole.

After giving props to his decade-long friend Jimmy Masrin who started the Indonesian Masters in 2011 and how far the tournament has come since, Bhullar remarked that he was proud with how well he performed over the past 4 days, his 7 shot lead and 6-shot win. He also credited his team, personal psychologist, coach and caddie.

Bhullar's 11th title at the BNI Indonesian Masters tournament set a new Asian Tour record, by making him the first international golfer to win 3 different tournaments in Indonesia: Indonesia President Invitational (2009), Indonesia Open (2013, 2016, and 2022), and BNI Indonesian Masters 2023.

In the final round, Jonathan Wijono, as one of the Indonesian golfers and the national no. 1, also managed to close well. Carving a score of 67 (4-under-par) without making a single bogey, the 22-year-old golfer managed to carve out the best achievement in Indonesia’s biggest professional tournament. For that result, Jowi completed 71 holes with a total score of 275 (9-under-par).

This success marks Jowi's 4th and biggest achievement (2017 & 2019 as an amateur, 2022, and 2023 now) and the first he achieved as a professional at the Indonesian Masters. In his words, he didn’t expect the results 4 days ago and just tried to focus on his shots every day, but he was confident before playing.
