Satu Gerobak Baca, Sejuta Mimpi: A Canvas of Dreams

Every child has a dream, but not all have the opportunity to imagine where it could lead. Acknowledging this reality, the ‘Satu Gerobak Baca, Sejuta Mimpi’ (One Reading Cart, A Million Dreams) art exhibition, presented by Yayasan Maharani Kirana Pertiwi, celebrates the imagination and hope nurtured through nine years of expanding book access.

The foundation’s literacy initiative began with an ordinary gerobak baca (reading cart). Despite its simplicity, the cart’s significance lies in the way it does not wait for visitors—it approaches them. In response to widespread poverty and educational gaps in Indonesia, this walking library welcomes underprivileged children directly. Free to enjoy countless book selections, children escape into a world of creativity and begin to imagine who they could become.

As their imagination grew, so did new ways to express it. After years of delivering books nationwide, the initiative invited these young minds to bring their imagination to life through art. Opened on the afternoon of June 26, 2026, at the Hadiprana Gallery, Yayasan Maharani Kirana Pertiwi’s literacy initiative proudly presents ‘Satu Gerobak Baca, Sejuta Mimpi’.

Unlike traditional art galleries that frame the work of professionals, this exhibition celebrates the very lives the initiative has transformed. Amplified by vibrant colors, striking landscapes, and boundless imagination, each artwork is a unique reflection of a child’s dreams for the future. In doing so, the exhibition is no longer merely an art showcase but proof of how access to books and creative expression can illuminate a million futures.

Yet, the exhibition doesn’t stop at displays—it honors the children who embody the gallery. Scattered throughout the hall, the art pieces are available for purchase, allowing donors and visitors to contribute to the foundation’s initiative. The proceeds from each sale go toward expanding the Gerobak Baca program, supporting the development of new libraries, expanding book selections, and increasing access to literacy.

However, the true value of these artworks extends far beyond an ordinary gallery purchase. What appear to be youthful illustrations elicit a deeper reflection of human kindness, where our willingness to support one another transcends our differences. More than just a colorful addition to a home, these spirited drawings remain a living testament to the dreams they help nurture and the community that continues to make them possible.
