Atypical Spanish wear fits snugly in Orchard Central, The Spanish have always been innovators when it comes to art. Picasso pioneered Cubism, Dali dreamt up Surrealism, and Gaudi reinvented Art Nouveau. In that very same fashion, Spanish fashion label Desigual has redefined the essence of daily wearables. Desigual, meaning "unequal" in English, is a household brand in Spain that can also be found behind the shop windows of London, Paris, New York, and Saudi Arabia. Its founder, Thoms Meyer, conceived of the brand with just a few keywords to begin with: fun, fresh, authentic, rebellious, funny and innovative. With them in mind, Desigual was born, and 25 years later, has flourished into an unmatched and unmistakable lifestyle characterised by intense prints, innovative graffiti art and flamboyant splashes of colour. For the ladies, there's a tremendous range of tops, skirts, dresses and accessories available in daring and spontaneous colours and motifs, as evidenced by the asymmetrical rainbow-coloured oriental dresses we saw. For the guys, the extravagance is toned down just a tad bit, but don't expect anything sombre. We spotted a flamboyant multi-fabric long sleeve button-down patterned with flowers, leaves and crop circles - yes, crop circles! Desigual even has a kids' section, which in our humble opinion, makes their playful prints all the more fitting and exciting. When it comes to fun, freshness and innovation, Desigual always delivers, so if you're looking to be surprised, head down to the most atypical mall in Singapore, Orchard Central, and you may just find what you were not looking for.
